Tour Description

VinesViña Undurraga was established by Don Francisco Undurraga at the end of the 19th century on the Santa Ana estate in Talagante, 34kms south-east of Santiago in the heart of the Maipo Valley.  Under the supervision of the famous French viticulturist M. Pressac, he grew vines which he brought over from Germany and France.

Viña Undurraga now has two estates in the Maipo Valley, two in the Colchagua Valley and one in the San Antonio Valley with a total area of nearly 1,200 hectares.  Its wines are sold in over 60 countries.

The tour takes place at the Santa Ana estate and will give you the chance to see the beautiful park designed by the famous French landscapist, Monsieur Pierre Dubois, the modern vinification plant and the underground cellars which date back to 1885.  It concludes in the wine shop where you will have the chance to taste three reserve wines, purchase products in the Undurraga range and other souvenirs.

After the tour we will head towards Pomaire, an area known for its well preserved traditions and customs as shown in the pottery which is still produced by the local artisans. We will have the opportunity to learn about the methods employed in the production of pottery, some using a potter’s wheel and others simply by hand, and see a huge variety of the works on offer before we visit our next vineyard, Tarapacá.

Viña Tarapacá was founded in 1874 and originally named ‘Viña de Rojas’ after its founder Don Francisco de Rojas y Salamanca.  He established the vineyard in the Andean foothills with fine wines imported from France.  Later the vineyard became Viña Zavala under the ownership of Antonio Zavala.  When he and his wife split up, she received the estate as part of the divorce settlement and renamed it ‘Viña Tarapacá Ex Zavala’ after her lawyer, Don Arturo Alessandri, who was known as the ‘Lion of Tarapacá’.

Today, the vineyard is one of the largest exporters in the country, shipping wine to over 50 countries, as well as being one of the leading wineries in the Chilean market.

We will go on a tour of the vineyard and taste some different types of wine before returning to Santiago.
