Isla Negra & PomaireExplore the craft in Pomaire and the culture of Isla Negra with Pablo Neruda`s house Tour Description
We will leave Santiago and head towards Isla Negra, the tranquil family seaside resort where the famous Chilean poet and winner of the Nobel Prize for literature, Pablo Neruda, spent a significant part of his life. Of his many homes he always considered Isla Negra to be his favourite. This visit will take us into his house on the island and we will be able to see his impressive collection of miniatures, boats, ships, seashells and many more interesting objects. This was a place where he could relax with friends and pass away the hours talking about anything and everything. It was also the home of Delia del Carril, the Argentinean writer and painter and Pablo Neruda’s second wife. After visiting to the house we will enjoy a typical Isla Negra seafood lunch, after which we will continue our tour of the area by driving south through the coastal towns of EL Tabo, Las Cruces, San Sebastián and Cartagena, before taking the “highway of the sun” towards Pomaire. This area is known for its well preserved traditions and customs as shown in the pottery which is still produced by the local artisans. We will have the opportunity to learn about the methods employed in the production of pottery, some using a potter’s wheel and others simply by hand, and see a huge variety of the works on offer before we return to Santiago.
