Valle del Encanto

The Enchanted Valley is a vast amphitheatre which was once a religious sanctuary and now has become an open air museum of scientific and cultural interest. The archaeological excavations have proved that groups of hunter gatherers have inhabited this area for almost 4,000 years, until the seventh century A.D. groups were partially settled in this valley. The valley is of great archaeological importance for the petroglyphs, pictographs and 'piedras tacitas' or stone cups in evidence here. Over thirty petroglyphs are engraved in the rock showing heads with masks, tiaras, antenna, together with sun snake and fishlike forms. Pictographs drawn in natural rust coloured paint and the stone cups used for grinding food or paints are in evidence.

Valle del Elqui

Elqui Valley is one of the places that calls the most attention to this country, not necessarily for its landscape but for being related to esoteric and extraterrestrial phenomena. In addition, thanks to the weather conditions, the best pisco (brandy-like liquor) is produced here and it is also the ideal place for astronomical research. It is the birthplace of the country's greatest female poet and literature Nobel Prize winner: Gabriela Mistral.

Horse Treks

Cajón del Maipo

Appreciate the surrounding contryside of moutains and green pass, and beautiful view of the Andes one-hour drive from Santiago. During the spring it is possible to see condors flying, and there have been sigthings of pumas in the area.

Cerro Provincia

Cerro Provincia is the most visited summit of the Ramon Range, the mountain range immediately to the east of Santiago, wich is visible from anywhere in the city. Since it is a fairly easy and safe climb, a wide range of people climb the peak. North to South it is the first peak of the aforementionned range; continuing south, the next peaks are Cerro Tambor, Cerro Ramon, and Cerro Punta de Damas.

Chiloé Traidcraft
