- ATACAMA & THE NORTH
|
|
A
visit to Northern Chile offers a glimpse into the Atacama
Desert, the driest desert in the world and home to the bulk
of Chile’s mining industry. Here visitors can sunbathe
on miles of beautiful sandy beaches, explore breathtaking
National Parks where it is possible to see an abundance
of plant and animal life, tour picturesque green river valleys
and pay a visit to a vineyard to sample the local Pisco
(Chile’s favourite drink)!
The
Atacama Desert offers some amazing attractions such as the
Valley of the Moon and the Tatio geysers. The small tourist
centre of San Pedro is an ideal jumping off point for visiting
these sites. However, if you would prefer to get the true
desert experience, take a look at the expeditions we offer.
During the day, visits to San Pedro de Atacama or La Serena
offer a sampling of 19th century architecture and local
hospitality, and at night explore the universe at one of
the many astronomical observatories that take advantage
of an area blessed with some of the world’s clearest
starry night skies.
